A Springbank Community High School teacher has been charged with sexual offences against a student, Cochrane RCMP said.
On Jan. 21, 2025, Timothy Bailey, 49, of Calgary, was arrested after a female student reported inappropriate behaviour. He has been charged with:
Child luring
Making sexually explicit material available to a child
Sexual exploitation
At the time of his arrest, Bailey was employed at Springbank Community High School. Following a judicial interim release hearing, Bailey was released on conditions. He is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Cochrane on Feb. 18, 2025.
Cochrane RCMP said their investigation is ongoing, and they believe there may be additional victims.
RVS responds to charges
Rocky View Schools (RVS) confirmed that Bailey, a Grade 10, 11, and 12 math teacher, had been employed with the division since 2003 and has worked at Springbank Community High School throughout his career with RVS.
In a statement, Greg Luterbach, Superintendent of Schools, said RCMP informed the division of the investigation and Bailey’s arrest on Jan. 21. Luterbach said Bailey has been placed on unassigned duties and is prohibited from being on any RVS property effective immediately.
“We take these charges very seriously and will be working closely with Springbank Community High School to support them through this challenging situation,” Luterbach said. “School-based and divisional supports will be available for students at Springbank Community High School for as long as they may need them.”
RVS also acknowledged the impact the charges may have on staff, encouraging them to access the division’s Employee and Family Assistance Program for support.
