Following a years-long investigation in Port Alberni, RCMP says three men have been charged with sexual offences on minors, including one man who’s facing trafficking charges.
The Port Alberni RCMP says its investigation began in 2020, and now, five years later, three men have been charged.
All three accused were charged on Jan. 7, 2025. One man, Shaun Pater, born in 1979, was charged with 15 counts related to sexual offences on minors – including trafficking of persons under the age of 18.
The other two men, Terrance Houbregs and Wayne Moore, were charged with six counts involving sexual offences on minors.
As the court process unfolds, Mounties say all three men are on conditions – including not to have contact or be in the presence of anyone under the age of 16 – not to go to any school, playground, or daycare centre and not to go to any public park, swimming area, community centre or theatre where kids 16 or younger are known to be present.
“This matter is now before the courts, no further updates will be provided,” said RCMP in a release Thursday.
“Police want to remind the public that a sexual assault complaint can be made at anytime. If you are a victim of sexual assault please call us,” said the Port Alberni RCMP.
