Release of High-Risk Offender

In the interest of public safety, we are issuing the following public information and warning in regards to the release of a high risk offender.

Shaun Gerard DESRUISSEAUX, 43, was released to the Calgary community on Statutory Release, today, Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, after serving two thirds of a fifteen-year sentence for a series of stranger sexual assaults.

DESRUISSEAUX committed his crimes between 2008 to 2011 in southern Alberta and Saskatchewan, and targeted women, as well as a teenager, that were unknown to him.

DESRUISSEAUX is currently subject to Statutory Release conditions and will be supervised by Correctional Service of Canada (CSC). We will support our partners at CSC as necessary.

We are issuing this information and warning after careful deliberation and consideration of all related issues, including privacy concerns, in the belief that it is clearly in the public interest to inform the members of the community of the release of DESRUISSEAUX.

Members of the public are advised that the intent of the process is to enable members of the public to take suitable precautionary measures and not to embark on any form of vigilante action.
