Police lay sexual assault charges, seek additional complainants

For Immediate Release: 24-Jan-2025 @ 4:30 PM

MRU #: SA25R002

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has laid sexual assault charges following multiple reported incidents since August 2024.

In August 2024, it was reported to police that two females, residing at an Edmonton area shelter, were sexually assaulted by Mika Katz, 37, who was staying at the same shelter.

Following an investigation by the EPS, Katz was arrested on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024, and charged with two counts of sexual assault. Katz was then released with conditions, including to not contact or communicate with any of the complainants; not possess any weapons, firearms or ammunition; and not be within 50 meters of any women’s shelter in Alberta.

In January 2025, two additional females came forward and reported similar incidents involving Katz in August 2024 at the same shelter. On Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025, Katz was arrested by EPS and faces two additional charges of criminal harassment and sexual assault.

As police have now received multiple reports related to separate events on different days, investigators believe there may be additional complainants and are releasing Katz’s photo to encourage them to come forward. Katz may also use the name Michael Collins.
