A former teacher and hockey coach in Ontario has been charged for breaching the orders of his release while awaiting sentencing for two counts of sexual assault, York police say.

Kelvin Cheuk-Ho Lee of Whitchurch-Stouffville was convicted last year of two counts of sexual interference against a child under 16, police said in a news release Friday.

Lee was camp director at Haliburton Hockey Haven, starting in 2016, police said. He had also been a teacher with the York Region District School Board, where he coached sports, and an instructor at the Markham Tennis Club, police said in a previous release.

Police said they began investigating Lee in 2022 after they received allegations Lee had sexually assaulted a child who had taken private hockey lessons with him, which began when the victim was eight years old.

Following his conviction, Lee was released on bail with conditions that prohibited him from associating with children under the age of 16.

Police said Friday that they obtained evidence in April that Lee had violated those conditions in Markham. He now faces two charges for the alleged breach.

The investigation into the new charges is ongoing and police are asking anyone with more information to come forward.

Lee is scheduled to be sentenced for his sexual assault convictions on April 25.
