Sussex man ignoring sex offender act
Justin Muir, 37
SAINT JOHN: A Kings County man is wanted after being accused of failing to keep up his sex offender registration ten days after being sentenced for his first breach.
Justin Russell Muir, 37, of McKenna Avenue in Sussex, was due to appear Wednesday in Saint John provincial court. He is charged Sept. 8 with breaching a Sex Offender Information Registration Act order by failing to report a change of address within seven days.
His court summons was ordered for reservice twice, and Crown prosecutor Chris Titus noted he also didn’t show up to a summons to meet with the RCMP. He asked Judge Anne Jeffries for a non-endorsed warrant.
Muir pleaded guilty last July to a charge of failing to make an annual report to a registration centre under the Sex Offender Information Registration Act and was fined $1,000 on Aug. 29, including a $300 surcharge. A warrant of committal was issued in January after he failed to pay.
Muir was convicted in May 2018 for invitation to sexual touching, for engaging in a sexual act with a minor, having child pornography and illegally storing a bolt-action rifle.
