A convicted sex offender has been granted bail while he awaits trial on the most recent allegations against him.
Jomord John Fraser, 46, was arrested Nov. 20, 2024, on charges of assaulting and sexually assaulting a woman in Dartmouth three days earlier.
The Crown opposed Fraser’s release at a bail hearing in Dartmouth provincial court Friday.
After hearing evidence and submissions, Judge Jamie Van Wart ruled Fraser could be released on a $10,000 bail order with one surety, house arrest, and electronic monitoring.
Fraser was released from custody Tuesday, after someone from the province’s bail supervision program fitted him with an electronic ankle bracelet at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Dartmouth.
The bail order requires Fraser to live with his female surety at an apartment building in south-end Halifax. He cannot leave Nova Scotia and must remain in the residence at all times unless he’s dealing with medical emergencies or appointments or legal commitments.
The judge ordered Fraser to have no contact with the complainant, whose identity is protected by a publication ban, and one other Crown witness and not be within 100 metres of their homes, schools or workplaces.
Fraser is also prohibited from possessing any weapon as defined in the Criminal Code, except a knife for the purpose of preparing or consuming food.
He must report to Halifax Regional Police by phone every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Fraser has pleaded not guilty to the assault and sexual assault charges. His trial is set for two days this August in provincial court.
