A 43-year-old man, from Saint Rosette, N.B., has been sentenced following a sexual assault and a possession of child pornography investigation, in Sainte-Rosette, N.B.
In August 2021, members of the Chaleur Region were made of a report of a sexual assault. At the time of the offense, it was learned that the suspect may also be in possession of child pornography.
In August 2022, members of the Chaleur Region RCMP, assisted by the New Brunswick RCMP’s Northeast District Crime Reduction Unit, the Internet Child Exploitation Unit and Digital Forensics Services Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on Chemin Sainte-Louise, in Sainte-Rosette. A number of digital devices were seized as part of the investigation. A 43-year-old man was arrested at the scene, and later released.
On August 24, 2023, a second individual came forward to police with similar reports involving the same man. Later that day, the 43-year-old man was arrested without incident. The following day, 43-year-old Emery Doucet appeared in Bathurst Provincial Court and was charged with a number of offences, and was remanded into custody.
On May 23, 2024, Emery Doucet appeared in Bathurst Provincial Court and pled guilty to:
– Four counts of production of child pornography
– Two counts of publication of child pornography
– Two counts of sexual interference
– Invitation to sexual touching
– Luring a child
– Possession of child pornography
– Sexual assault
On February 26, 2025, Emery Doucet reappeared in Bathurst Provincial Court and was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison. He was ordered to register with the National Sex Offender Registry for 20 years, and required to provide a DNA sample. Upon his release, he will have to abide by conditions set out by the court, including not communicating with anyone under the age of 16, and not to attend any place that someone under the age of 16 is known to be. He will also be prohibited from possessing weapons for 10 years.
