Region of Peel – Investigators from the Peel Regional Police Special Victims Unit have charged a religious leader in relation to a sexual assault investigation.
On Monday, March. 3, 2025, the accused attended the victim’s residence to perform a religious ceremony, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.
On Friday, March. 7, 2025, Ashok Kumar, a 69-year-old man from Brampton was arrested and charged with one count of sexual assault. The accused is also known by the name Ashok Sharma.
Kumar is scheduled to appear later at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
The accused has been a religious leader in the Brampton community for several years and investigators believe there may be additional victims.
