We have charged a man after it is believed he held a woman against her will & sexually assaulted her for several days within an encampment located in the cityβs northeast.
At approx. 3 a.m., on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, the victim attended a health facility to report she had been held against her will, threatened with a gun, beaten & sexually assaulted within an encampment by a man she recently met.
Our officers began an investigation, which led them to believe the assaults took place at an encampment located in a green space near 48 Avenue N.E. & Metis Trail N.E.
Later that morning, at approx. 9 a.m., our District 5 Community Engagement Response Team (CERT) attended the encampment & arrested the suspect.
At the time of the arrest the suspect was in possession of a stolen Smith & Wesson M&P45 handgun.
As a result, the Calgary Police Service Sexual Assault Investigative Unit charged Robert David KIRSTEIN, 44, of Calgary, with:
Sexual assault
Assault
Unlawful possession of a restricted firearm
Possession of a stolen firearm
Careless storage of a firearm
Uttering threats
KIRSTEIN remains in custody and will next appear in court on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025.
The encampment has since been removed by The City of Calgary community safety peace officers.
