Paul Atanassov, a former real estate agent from Surrey, B.C., has been sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for sexually abusing two underage girls, aged 12 and 14, and creating child pornography involving the younger victim. The court heard that Atanassov plied his victims with drugs and alcohol, engaged in unprotected sexual acts with the 12-year-old, and recorded abusive videos, one of which was shared and circulated on social media, further traumatizing the victim.

The Crown highlighted the victims’ young ages as aggravating factors and noted that the abuse caused severe harm, including addiction issues for the younger victim. Despite seeking an eight-year sentence, the court credited Atanassov for time served, leaving him with just over a year in custody followed by two years of probation
